Some of the deep work on scar tissue from previous damage can feel harsh, but the freedom of movements it promotes afterwards makes it worth it. I watch carefully and I ask patients to tell me when it is hard enough! During massage I notice any sensitive areas or lumps in the muscle, working over these areas repeatedly until they reduce in size. It may take several sessions for the muscle to return to normal. Some intractable long-term injuries turn out to be amenable to soft tissue treatment when surgery has been considered or even performed. Runners I treat Many of the problems runners encounter are not serious, but they hurt and interfere with their performance and enjoyment. Sometimes they only hurt while running or indeed sprinting. Pain in the Achilles tendon or around the knee for example respond well to work by skilled hands. Sometimes it takes a bit of deduction to find out where the pain is coming from and to be able to treat it. Runners I treat are very happy to be able to run again without pain.
