REMEDIAL MASSAGE

Mild injuries

The way to attend to these, for example a slight twinge in the ankle, is to wear a support for a couple of outings, until it feels stronger. Go by your pain level, slow down until you can run comfortably. In these cases getting a remedial massage or sports massage would pay off; speeding up recovery time, ensuring complete healing and preventing exacerbation of the injury. You can do gentle flushing massage up your leg to assist healing. Start below the injury ands sweep up way past it coming back to below again with one hand following the other. Don’t ignore slight injuries, do something to help your body return to optimal fitness before racing again.

Other factors include the treatment of sore skin and blisters. I have learned by experience that the homeopathic remedy with the unpronounceable name of Combudoron works for blisters created by friction, it reduces soreness and the time it takes for them to heal dramatically. It needs to be put on soon and repeatedly; it has no toughening action so if you carry on running in the same shoes you will be back where you started from. Any sore areas or broken blisters can be treated with Calendula, another homeopathic remedy that aids the healing of skin and prevents infection. I estimate that it doubles the speed of healing. Homeopathic remedies are available from Health Food shops and some chemists, eg Boots, useful ones come in cream or lotion form.

The treatment that I offer

Remedial massage, as the name suggests, is instrumental in assisting the body to speed recovery. It is useful to treat any injury, major or minor, it is also useful as part of care for your legs throughout the season. Remedial massage is deep tissue massage, pressing into and kneading the muscles to increase the blood flow. This increase of blood and lymph flow removes waste products and damaged tissue, treating any injuries in the muscles that are too slight to be noticed, at the same time it increases oxygen supply to aid recovery. It feels lovely on achey muscles and joints, warming the body and making it tingle.
