REMEDIAL MASSAGE

RTAs - Road Traffic Accidents

I have had significant experience in the area of compound injuries and trauma associated with road traffic accidents. They require a persistence and thoroughness that seems to be rare in those treating soft tissue injuries. Having suffered a major injury myself, I understand the extent of the problem and offer an unusual perspective for those requesting treatment. I know that it is possible to regain movement and use in areas that have been seriously traumatised. I know that it is possible to do this and to go on to move without pain. Many victims are told that they will never regain movement, even when all bones structures are in working order. I believe that if the restriction is in the soft tissue - ie muscle, tendon or ligament - and the patient is willing to work at it, improvement is still possible. The human body has the most extraordinary powers of recovery. Keep asking until you find it!

One of the difficulties with treating compound injuries is separating the layers of tissue that have been crushed. Once these grow together across layers that are meant to slide independently over one another, loss of movement and pain are inevitable. Remedial massage can be a key release for these areas. This can work many years after the accident that caused the injury. However, if you can get treatment while injuries are still in the early stages of healing, you will suffer less pain and regain more movement much more quickly. Treating large, complicated injuries is hard work, requiring dedication on the part of the practitioner as well as the patient. It also requires participation by the patient. Each layer has to be worked on revealing the next beneath it. Sometimes we see progress immediately after the treatment, and during the following weeks the affected area gradually becomes more mobile and responsive to use. I have developed some individual techniques to use that have been successful with my patients. Some of the treatment is painful, and I do warn you if something I am about to do may hurt, but patients usually seem only too ready to go through some pain to improve their mobility.

It does take a number of treatments to make a good physical recovery, but it seems to be the only treatment to offer this sort of hope. I also offer treatment for the emotional damage suffered, using breathwork, see Rebirthing Breathwork.
