CRACKED NIPPLES
Cracked nipples are a further development from soreness and the treatment is as above for sore nipples. The nipples may bleed and parents worry if their baby is swallowing some blood. This is not harmful to the baby but obviously the situation needs to be attended to as soon as possible. Sometimes it can help to express milk for a day because it hurts too much for the mother to be able to put the baby to the breast. Pumps are available for hire from the breastfeeding organizations, or your health visitor may be able to get hold of one for you.
