REMEDIAL MASSAGE

Bruising

Put arnica on quickly if you can!

Following a bruise, gentle effleurage is useful to encourage blood flow through the congested region, thus removing some of the swelling. Later friction, little circular movements usually done with the thumbs, can remove the more stubborn scar tissue that remains. Keeping the lymph flowing so that it does not solidify is the major objective here. If you can do this the injury will not cause permanent limitation of movement. Even so, this ‘permanence’ can be changed, it takes some serious work to break down the hardened area of tissue but it can be done. The benefits felt are immediate and self-perpetuating. The more you move the injured part the freer it becomes.
